Two Murphy roads undergo replacements

by | Apr 22, 2021 | Latest

Construction begins soon for two roads in Murphy, with their replacement being one of the final projects included in the 2017 Capital Improvement Projects bond election that was approved by Murphy voters.

Murphy officials said the general obligation bond project, dubbed the South Maxwell Creek Road-Kinney Drive Road Replacement project, will include removal and replacement of four location points of the existing drainage under South Maxwell Creek Road to provide for storm water flow from west of South Maxwell Creek Road to Maxwell Creek.

The project also will reclaim existing materials on South Maxwell Creek Road, south of FM 544, and pave the roadway with asphalt. The project also will do “removal and replacement of one location point of the existing drainage under Kinney Drive to provide for storm water flow to Maxwell Creek and reclaim existing materials on Kinney Drive and paving the roadway with asphalt,” city officials said.

The work is expected to take about several months with completion and final closing of the project scheduled for October, although Ken Lee, project manager for bonds for the city, said the construction company – TexasBIT – hopes to beat that deadline. Weather and other uncontrollable factors may affect the construction schedule, officials said. TexasBIT has been instructed by city officials to maintain at least one lane open for through traffic.
