City Council on Nov. 18 approved a five-year contract with Motorola Solutions to replace the Murphy Police Department’s aging computer-aided dispatch and records management system, a move city officials said was critical to maintaining reliable emergency response and public safety operations.
The new platform, known as the Motorola Flex CAD and RMS system, will cost up to $1.21 million over the life of the agreement and includes installation, data migration, equipment, software licensing, cybersecurity protections and 24-hour technical support.
Police Chief Jeff Gibson told council members the current dispatch and records platform is more than two decades old and fails consistently, creating risks for officers and dispatchers who depend on real-time information during emergency calls. According to the staff report, the system’s outdated technology “no longer supports the mission of Murphy’s public safety” and requires a full replacement to prevent potential system shutdowns.
The city spent the past year and a half evaluating three mainstream systems before determining that Motorola Flex best met both current needs and future expansion requirements.
