Finishing up a Veteran’s Day speaking tour, Vietnam veteran and Rowlett native Tim Lee delivered a message of perseverance and faith at the quarterly Murphy Chamber of Commerce meeting Nov. 15.
The luncheon was sponsored by the Murphy Veterans Tribute organization and Bridgemoor at Plano, a 55+ living community.
Lee, a Marine Corps veteran and a pastor for Southern Baptist Churches both here and abroad, was a high school standout athlete before enlisting, but on one day in March 1971, he stepped on a 60-pound landmine in southern Vietnam which tore off most of his legs, forever changing the outlook and direction of his life.
After the explosion, Lee awoke with his head in his best friend’s lap, who was a Christian and was fervently praying for his life on the battlefield. In that moment, Lee gave his life to God.
After returning stateside, Lee ended up in the Philadelphia Naval Hospital with hundreds of other wounded soldiers separated by only a thin sheet between them which did nothing to block out the screams of pain from other vets.
