The city will pay one-third more for ad valorem tax collection this year than it paid last year. The Murphy City Council agreed at its Tuesday, April 21, meeting to a rate increase requested by Scott Grigg, the Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector.
“The fees have not gone up for many years while the expenses have continued to Increase,” Grigg said in a letter to the city.
The new rate increases Murphy’s fee for 7,019 taxed parcels by $1,755 for a total of $7,019, Grigg said.
The tax collection interlocal agreement was one of three approved on council’s consent agenda. Councilmembers also authorized an update to the retail fuel card contract with US Bank and an agreement with the North Central Texas Council of Governments to allow Murphy’s participation in the TXShare Cooperative Purchasing Agreement.
