Years ago, bicycles were designed to get you where you were going — no matter what happened. Many bikes had an air pump attached to the frame and a small bag under the seat that contained an assortment of vital tools including wrenches, a tire lever and inner tube patch kit.
Not all bikes are equipped that well these days, but Murphy Parks & Recreation have got you covered. The city has installed bike repair stations in the south Maxwell Creek parking lot of the Timbers Nature Preserve and by the parking area of The Preserve.
Parks & Rec Director Matt Foster said the Fixit includes all the tools necessary to perform basic repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat tire to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools and air pump are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and tamper-proof fasteners.
Hanging the bike from the hanger arms allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments.
Foster said there are no current plans to install more.
“We are waiting to see how these hold up before making a decision regarding future budget allocation,” he said.
