The Murphy Police Department conducted 8,906 traffic stops in 2025 and remains in full compliance with Texas laws governing racial profiling, according to analysis of departmental data prepared by Eric Fritsch, director of Justice Research Consultants.
The report, part of state-mandated reporting requirements, found that the department maintains a formal policy prohibiting racial profiling, provides officer training and public education on the issue and operates a complaint process while collecting and analyzing traffic stop data.
Fritsch’s report to the Murphy City Council was on the regular meeting agenda for Tuesday, April 21. It said that of the total stops recorded in 2025, White motorists accounted for 2,904 stops, followed by Asian or Pacific Islander motorists with 2,426 stops, Hispanic or Latino motorists with 1,776 stops and Black motorists with 1,760 stops. Alaska Native or American Indian motorists accounted for 40 stops.
