Plano Independent School District (PISD) officials, community members and business partners have marked the start of construction on a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center that district leaders say will expand hands-on learning opportunities for high school students.
The 150,000-square-foot facility will be built at the intersection of Alma Drive and West Park Boulevard as part of the voter-approved 2022 bond program. The $72.2 million project is designed to serve students in grades nine through 12 and is scheduled to open before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
District leaders said at the Nov. 19 groundbreaking the center is intended to provide students with academic instruction paired with technical training aligned to current and emerging workforce needs. Plans for the building include flexible spaces that can be adapted or expanded as labor trends change.
“We are delivering on a promise to prepare students for the future,” Superintendent Theresa Williams said during the groundbreaking ceremony. “This new CTE Center symbolizes progress, collaboration and our shared vision for the future. The center will be a key part of our Plano for Your Future initiative, providing us with a new and innovative way to inspire today’s learners to be tomorrow’s leaders.”
