Waylon, 3, zipped around the Murphy City Hall parking lot in the Saturday, July 19, Power Wheels competition.
Murphy’s second annual Power Wheels race pulled an enthusiastic but smaller field than last year’s event.
Three entries were ready to race under sunny skies Saturday, July 19, as the temperature hovered in the mid-70s.
However, a local team of two sisters decided not to compete.
That left the race in the City Hall parking lot to a pair of 3-year-old contenders, Piper in her pink sports car and Waylon in his orange and green racer.
Waylon, from The Colony, got off to a speedy start as his vehicle leapt forward, leaving slow and steady Piper, from Lewisville, undaunted but behind.
Ashley Hudson, Parks & Recreation special events manager, waved the checkered flag as the racers completed their laps.
Both racers received trophies for their skills, and six-member Team Piper, clad in pink t-shirts, was honored as best pit crew.
