Plano East’s Shaw selected by Seattle Mariners in 7th round of MLB Draft

The Seattle Mariners dipped into the talent pool that resides in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Colton Shaw, a 2021 graduate of Plano East, was selected by the Mariners in the seventh round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft with the No. 212 overall pick Monday.

Shaw had a standout career for the Plano East Panthers, splitting his time between shortstop and pitcher, before going on to play in college for Yale University.

During his time at Plano East, Shaw finished with a .313 batting average over his junior and senior seasons with 42 hits, 26 RBI and one home run, and on the mound, went 6-2 with a 1.8 earned-run average, striking out 53 against 21 walks and 19 runs in 46.2 innings. He garnered 2020 varsity MVP, 2021 Class 6A TXHSBaseball second team academic all-state, 2021 6ATXHSBaseball academic all-district, was named the 2019 Dallas Tigers Pitcher of the Year and a member of the National Honor Society.

Seattle’s first starting pitcher pick on Day 2, Shaw ate innings for the Bulldogs his entire four-year collegiate career, logging a 3.13 ERA and a .221 opponents’ average in 77 2/3 innings with 80 strikeouts as a senior. He ended the season with a string of five starts that all went at least 7 1/3 innings — including one nine-inning outing — in which he allowed just four runs.
