Other coaches in District 6-6A took note of the success of the Plano East softball team for this past season and subsequently rewarded the Lady Panthers with eight selections on the all-district team, including three superlative winners.
Alum pitcher/first baseman Jadyn Dawson, an Abilene Christian University signee, was named the district’s most valuable player. Rising junior center fielder Julia Wilson garnered newcomer of the year, while head coach Lauren Peterson captured 6-6A coach of the year.
Another newcomer that stepped up for Plano East was freshman left fielder Chloe Lee. Lee was named to the all-district first team after she hit .386 with 51 hits, 20 RBIs and 18 stolen bases as the team’s lead-off batter.
Alum first baseman Riley Hopper (16 RBIs, 26 hits), rising junior shortstop Gina Martin (.381 batting average, 51 hits, 36 RBIs, team-high 10 triples) and incoming junior third baseman Kayleigh Miller (.280 batting average, two home runs, 26 RBIs, eight doubles) cracked the second team.
Alum second baseman Kylie Grant received recognition on the All-6-6A honorable mention team. She recorded a .265 batting average with 22 RBIs, 30 hits, two home runs, two doubles and two triples. Defensively, she committed two errors all year for a .985 fielding percentage.
Plano East was also rewarded for their hard work in the classroom.
Dawson, Grant, Hopper, Lee, Martin, Miller, Wilson, alums Cassandra Lupo, Camaya King and Caliya King, and rising juniors Avery Hopper and Savannah Leonard were honored on the 6-6A academic all-district team.
