Plano East senior Philip Reed concluded his season last Saturday at the Class 6A state track and field meet from Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Reed finished in eighth place in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.3 seconds.
Reed finished his high school career as a two-time state qualifier in the 110 hurdles. He placed seventh in the state during his junior season.
“I’m extremely proud of Philip,” said Jonathan Bannister, Plano East head coach. “He’s been very disciplined, showing patience and trust in the process which paid off resulting in running sub 14s consistently during post season competition.”
Reed qualified for this year’s state meet after he earned second place in the boys’ 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.93 seconds at the Region I-6A meet, held at the University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Stadium.
Reed’s state-qualifying time was of the slimmest margins. He edged Allen junior Jace Johnson by one one-hundredth of a second at the finish line. Johnson finished third overall with a 13.94.
Reed nearly added a state qualification in the 300-meter low hurdles. He came up less than one second short of his goal as he had to settle for third place with a time of 37.4.
