MCKINNEY – The Plano East track and field team put on quite the performance last Thursday at the area 5-6A/6-6A meet at Ron Poe Stadium.

Competing in little to no wind and sunny weather conditions, Plano East qualified for this week’s Region I-6A meet in Arlington in seven events and crowned two champions.

Senior Philip Reed qualified for the regional meet in two events: 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. He cruised to the top time in the 300 hurdles, crossing the finish line in with a PR of 17.74. And in the 110 hurdles, he earned a silver medal, posting a time of 13.85 seconds.

Freshman Liana Wright continued her breakout season in the 100-meter dash. She won the area meet title in the event with a time of 11.56. Wright is the fifth-ranked freshman in the nation in that event and 44th nationally at all levels.

Wright finished the day with three regional meet qualifications. In addition to her efforts in the 100, she helped to lead Plano East’s girls 4×200 to third place in a time of 1:39.4. Wright ran the relay with Payten Cooper, Kosiso Ngadi and Karis Jenkins. Also Thursday, Wright, Cooper, Ayaan Richardson and Jenkins ran to second place in the 4×100 in a time of 46.59 seconds.

Jenkins, like Wright, will compete in the regional meet in three events. In addition to the two berths in the relays, Jenkins, a senior, earned a spot in regionals in the 100 dash. She earned third place in a time of 11.91 seconds.

All three of Plano East’s girls’ relays advanced to the regional meet.

The Lady Panthers’ 4×400 of Ngadi, Cooper, Dikeocha and Hannah Reed placed fourth with a 3:52.78.

Senior Hannah Reed added a fourth-place finish in the 100 hurdles with a 14.75.

Freshman Kourtney Houston is bound for the regional meet in the shot put, having captured fourth in the shot put at the area meet with a toss of 36-feet, 8.25 inches.

The Region I-6A meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at the University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Stadium.
