Murphy City Council candidate Elizabeth Abraham said she wants to maintain the city’s small-town charm while addressing the challenges of rapid growth.
Abraham, who serves as mayor pro tem, is seeking her third term in Place 1, and said her experience in city governance, leadership and community engagement shows her commitment to making a positive impact and guiding Murphy toward a future prioritizing the needs and values of residents.
“During my time on the council, I’ve worked to enhance infrastructure, preserve green spaces and improve community services,” she said. “I will make sure that the influence of special interest groups, such as developers, does not outweigh the voice of the community.”
Abraham has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University and has worked for 25 years in various roles at a global services company. She has been a licensed Texas real estate agent since 1993 and subsequently a licensed Texas real estate broker since 2012.
She’s a member of the Murphy Community Emergency Response Team and is a deputy voter registrar for Collin County.
Abraham said key issues facing the city include handling traffic flow and congestion, especially on FM-544 and the new H-E-B store. She is also focused on connecting trails and updating parks/greenspaces, managing water usage and the related cap and making sure the infrastructure remains updated.
“Public safety, a key reason residents choose Murphy, will be a priority, adding resources to meet growing demands,” she said.
Abraham’s opponent in the Saturday, May 3, general election is Nadeem Khan.
Early voting will be April 22-29 at the Murphy Activity Center, with the exception of Sunday, April 27.
