Place 6 Murphy City Council candidate Qasim Rasul says he’s committed to listening to residents and making thoughtful decisions that strengthen Murphy’s future.
Rasul says he wants to serve on the city council to help preserve Murphy’s small-town charm and strong sense of community while also ensuring responsible growth.
However, as an established city, he believes Murphy’s focus must shift from growth to maintaining and improving existing infrastructure and services.
“Aging roads, drainage systems and utility lines require proactive maintenance to ensure they remain safe and reliable,” he says.
A member of the Building and Fire Code Appeals Board, Rasul says his experience as a local business owner in civil heavy construction has given him valuable insights into the infrastructure that impacts residents daily.
“My experience managing complex construction projects has given me the skills to evaluate city services, assess project costs, and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely,” he says.
Rasul grew up in Plano and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and an MBA from Texas Tech University.
In addition to managing a business, Rasul says his leadership skills include coaching youth sports and serving as vice president of the Windy Hill Farms HOA.
“I believe strong leadership requires listening, learning and acting in the best interests of the people you serve,” he says.
Rasul’s opponent in the Saturday, May 3, general election is Place 6 incumbent Jené Butler.
Thursday, April 3, is the last day to register to vote and early voting will be April 22-29 at the Murphy Activity Center, with the exception of Sunday, April 27.
