More than 30 Murphy residents appeared before city council to protest the idea of allowing the retail sale of liquor in package stores.
In an executive session during the Tuesday, Oct. 1, meeting, the city attorney briefed councilmembers on requirements for a local option election to authorize such liquor sales.
Mayor Scott Bradley said a retailer “has expressed interest in supporting a petition for packaged liquor sales in the city of Murphy, as is their right.”
However, Assistant City Manager Jared Mayfield said no such petition has been submitted.
Council took no action on the subject.
