Water from the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) may taste different for a while, the water district said. However, the NTMWD said the water remains safe to drink.
NTMWD employs a process called ozonation, to help mitigate the earthy taste that occurs naturally in lake water.
“We’ve had to perform some unplanned maintenance on one of our ozone systems after a recent overheating issue caused damage to the system,” the district said.
The problem was at one of the four facilities in the Wylie Water Treatment complex.
“So far, we’ve received a limited number of reports of a change in taste from people in Wylie, Murphy, Richardson and Plano,” said Alex Johnson, NTMWD director of communications.
“The maintenance to the ozonation system will be ongoing for a few weeks but we’re temporarily adjusting our water treatment operations to lessen the likelihood that people might notice the change in taste,” Johnson said.
