Republic Services is still picking up brush from last month’s storms but has ended the two-week special collection that removed volume restrictions.
A company official told the Monday, June 18, meeting of the Murphy City Council that Republic Services had picked up 386 tons of storm debris in just two weeks, compared with the city’s normal monthly average of 559 tons.
The cleanup is costing the city $50,000.
For pickup, all brush must be bundled in four-foot lengths for a total of 4 cubic yards. Republic Services will pick up one such bundle per week and tag the remaining bundles for pickup in subsequent weeks until they are gone.
If residential customers want a special pickup, they can call 972-422-2341 to schedule. The price is $8.07 per 3 cubic yards or about $65 for 8 cubic yards.
Residents may also drive brush to the C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill in Rowlett. Disposal is free with proof of Murphy residence via a driver’s license AND utility bill.
The dump is at 3175 Elm Grove Road, Rowlett, 75089.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The dump is closed on Sunday.
The phone number is 972-205-3670.
