The Murphy City Council has agreed to delay a decision on Walmart’s request to build a fuel station and convenience store in its parking lot along FM 544. The Planning & Zoning Commission rejected the plan by a 4-2 vote last month so Walmart appealed directly to council.
However, the company requested more time for engineers to complete a study of potential traffic volume. Councilmembers then agreed at their Tuesday, Jan. 16, meeting to table the issue until their Feb. 20 meeting.
A Murphy resident told council the proposed development would make the parking lot too crowded. “It’s like putting 20 pounds in a 10-pound bag,” he said.
