PROSPER – Plano East’s first playoff appearance in five years came to an end in the first round.
The Eagles (10-1) scored two plays into their first drive on the way to a 41-3 bi-district playoff victory. There were just too many obstacles on the night for the Panthers.
First, East had to take on the reigning Region 1-6A champions, and winners of District 5-6A. Second, the Panthers were doing it without starting quarterback Drew Devillier and running back Travis Agee.
To make matters worse, backup quarterback Jackson Hays went down with an injury late in the first half and was held out for the remainder of the game.
Freshman Jackson Howard took over at quarterback, leading the team on its only scoring drive of the game with Justin Simmons’ field goal.
Overall, the team got some postseason experience, and finished the year with a winning record. The Panthers’ (6-5) battled through a lot of adversity throughout the season, improving by four wins from a year ago.
Prosper advances to face Lake Highlands in the Area Round.
