East stumbles in third quarter in loss to Hebron

CARROLLTON – For a moment, the Plano East Panthers took a lead to start the second half.

Ezra O’Neal III took the second half’s opening kickoff back 95 yards to give Plano East (1-1 in 6-6A, 3-2) a 17-14 lead on the road. That moment ended quickly, however, as Hebron (1-1 in 6-6A, 3-2) scored on three straight drives to start the third quarter and win 38-28.

The team got off to a good start, but head coach Tony Benedetto felt like they let it get away from them too late in the game.

“It was a little disappointing, mainly because the kids knew how big this game was for our playoff hopes,” Benedetto said. “Our goal is to make the playoffs and this was a big part, but we’re not out of it. They could run the ball on us and we couldn’t run the ball on them so they could control the game. We had good plays that kept us in the game, but we couldn’t get control.”
