Mosque wins planning approval

Muslims in Murphy hope to be able to pray in their own mosque during Ramadan 2025.

After reviewing a revised site plan for the Islamic Association of Murphy (IAM) Masjid [Arabic for mosque], the Murphy Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission voted 5-1 to approve the two-story, 11,600-square-foot mosque proposed for 2.43 acres on the northeast corner of North Murphy Road and McMillen Drive. P&Z Chairman John Wideman was the lone dissenting vote.
