Nearly one out of every five Murphy city employees (19%) quit this fiscal year, usually after less than two years of service. And 72% of them said it was because of salary. Last year’s turnover rate was 29.4%, records showed.
To stem the tide of attrition, City Manager Mike Castro proposed a one-year 10% across the board pay raise for all municipal employees, including sworn positions such as police and fire, and non-sworn workers.
