Three people were dead following a double homicide and a suicide in an residential neighborhood of Murphy.

The shooting reported about 6:15 p.m., Monday, April 10, at 414 Whisperfield Drive in the Rolling Ridge subdivision, Police Chief Chris Chandler said.

Police found the body of 57-year-old Tracy Kay Cantu on the driveway of her home. The body of her husband, Federico Cantu, Jr., 63, was found inside the house, Chandler said.

Cantu’s son, Vincent Cantu, 35, was found in the back yard with a gunshot wound to his head, the chief said. He was the stepson of Tracy Cantu but did not live with them.

Police and Murphy Fire Rescue personnel began life-saving measures, and he was taken to Medical City Plano by Sachse Fire Department ambulance. He later was pronounced dead at the hospital, the chief said.

Chandler said Vincent Cantu apparently arrived at the house shortly after 6 p.m. and “attacked his father and stepmother with several weapons.”

It was believed he then turned one of the weapons on himself in an attempt to take his own life, Chandler said.

The shooter was accompanied by another individual who was cooperating with the investigation, the chief said.

The shootings were believed to be an isolated incident with no continued threat to the public, Chandler said.
