City plans to ‘wrap things up for the residents this month

by | Dec 8, 2022 | Latest

The city’s new branding initiative, The Corridor at Murphy, hopes to make life a little easier this holiday season by hosting two free gift wrapping events exclusively for Murphy residents.

The Corridor includes the commercial area along FM 544 between Dublin Rd and McCreary Road.

In exchange for a non-perishable food or travel-sized toiletry donation to Minnie’s Food Pantry in Plano, residents can bring their gifts to the newly renovated Murphy Activity Center Tuesday Dec. 13 and Tuesday Dec. 20 from 2 – 6 p.m.

The city recruited employee elves to help residents get things all wrapped up.

“It’s a great way to mark things off your to-do list while helping provide food for the less fortunate,” said Jared Mayfield, Director of Community and Economic Development. “You’re welcome to wait onsite while we wrap or drop them off and run errands, get your nails done, or better yet, do more shopping!”

Upon check in for wrapping assistance, individuals will be asked to fill out a simple form to indicate giftwrap choices and preference for bows or ribbon.

City officials report this event is also where you can earn a ticket for a raffle prize if you bring in gift (s) purchased in Murphy and show your receipt. Residents will receive one raffle ticket per receipt and do not have to be present to win.

“It’s something different than we’ve done in years past, but we’re hoping people take advantage of this creative service to help ease the stress of the holidays,” Mayfield said. “We request all gifts to be dropped off by 5:45 p.m. on these days to ensure wrapping can be completed by 6 p.m.”
