Comeback kids: Panthers battle back to stay undefeated

by | Sep 9, 2022 | Latest, Sports

Another come-from-behind victory for Plano East (3-0) keeps them unbeaten, as they defeated Prosper Rock Hill (1-2) 35-28 at Kimbrough Stadium on Friday night.

Daniel Fayombo delivered again with his second-straight game-winning touchdown, this time on a two-yard run. His two-point conversion with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter gave the Panthers the seven-point advantage.

Rock Hill’s drive for a game-tying touchdown was stopped when East’s defensive back Desmond Smith intercepted the pass attempt in the red zone to seal the victory.

The Panthers now go to 3-0, starting the season with a winning streak for the first time since 2018. East finishes with 425 total yards, 294 were passing yards. Panthers wide receiver Rushil Patel was clutch in the fourth quarter, leading the team with six catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns.

Rock Hill’s running back Victor Chionuma finished with 16 carries for 160 yards and four touchdowns. There were a total of eight lead changes in the game. Plano East has the bye week and will return on Sept. 23 for their first district game against the Plano Wildcats at Clark Stadium in Plano.
