Murphy City Council held a public hearing concerning a zoning change for acreage located south of City Hall at the Tuesday, June 8, regular meeting.
The 7.5-acre lot has been discussed at four separate Planning and Zoning Commission meetings since January and is currently zoned for City Center. The developer requested the zoning be single-family residential patio for a development known as The Grove.
When the public hearing opened, five residents spoke in favor of the development.
Although the P&Z voted not to approve the item during its last meeting, council overturned the decision with unanimous approval.
In other business, council also approved issuing $2.4 million in tax notes at an estimated interest rate of 3.25% to replace the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system for the city’s water meters.
Council also authorized Neel-Schaffer to conduct a water study for $65,100. Both the meter system replacement and water study will help the city address water loss issues.
