With Moonlight Movies wrapping up this week, a variety of band offerings will fill the stage at Murphy Central Park during the month of June.

The Sounds at Sundown concert series returns to Murphy next month with 80’s hair metal, Taylor Swift covers and Tejano hits in store for area residents.

The concerts are held at the acoustically engineered Central Park amphitheater, located at 550 North Murphy Road. Food trucks open their counters at 7 p.m. with music starting at 8 p.m. each of the four evenings.

“Musical tastes vary in our highly diverse community, and in response, we’ve tried to reach as many of our population groups as possible,” Special Events Coordinator Ashley Hudson said in a news release. “Offering a variety of musical acts allows us to reach a wider swath of our community.”

The series will kick off Friday, June 3, with Metal Shop, a Dallas-based rock band devoted to 80’s hair metal playing covers of songs made famous by bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Tesla, Poison, Winger, AC/DC and more.

Hudson said the concert for Friday, June 10 is yet to be determined but Reputation, a Taylor Swift cover band was originally scheduled to play.

On Friday, June 17, the Emerald City Band, a 13-piece “super group that electrifies every audience with a combination of high energy dance songs from the past with the hits of today.” The Emerald City Band is a perennial favorite and mainstay of Sounds at Sundown.

“The unique arrangements, brassy accompaniment and stirring vocals will undoubtedly bring attendees out of their seats to dance to the thriving beats,” city officials said of the band in the release.

The final performer of the series is the CTS Band, scheduled for Friday, June 24. The self-proclaimed “queen of Tejano tributes” offers a “high energy and interactive” Latin show, performing Selena songs and the greatest Latin hits of all time.

“The Sounds at Sundown concert series has the largest number of attendees behind Maize days,” Hudson said. “We listen to what the community wants and try to reach as much of our diverse population as possible.”

Hudson added that she is expecting between 4,000 and 5,000 attendees for the Emerald City Band, the biggest party band in the Metroplex.

Pre-concert activities include face painting and the splash pad, which will conclude when the music begins. There will be a variety of vendors for every concert for attendees to enjoy.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, folding chairs, seat pads and insect repellent.

The event is free, and parking is available at the Murphy Plano Sports Authority parking lot and at City Hall.
