Murphy police warn the Christmas season can trigger a spike in thefts and burglaries, but residents can take a few steps to prevent themselves from being victimized.
People should keep an eye on purses and wallets, which can be easily taken even while the owner is nearby, and they should avoid withdrawing large sums of money from ATM machines, because vulnerability at these locations is high.
Police Chief Arthur Corren advises people to put a blanket in a car before getting in the car for that shopping trip, as people can use the blanket to cover their purchases while they’re away from the car. He also said people should keep all their receipts, which will be necessary if their car gets broken into.
