An annual beer festival in Murphy is still on tap this year, but it will have a different date.
At its meeting Tuesday, the Murphy City Council approved moving back the Tunes, Tails & Ales Craft Beer Festival from May 1 to July 17.
Councilmembers approved moving the date from May 1 after hearing a report from Caitlyn Mullins, manager of recreation services for the city, at the meeting. The decision to request moving the date revolved around feedback from Brewvolution LLC, stakeholders and city and health officials.
The event, normally held on the first Saturday in May, was canceled last year. Mayor Scott Bradley suggested the city should provide cooling opportunities and protection from the sun, as the event will be held in July this year. He suggested making more shading – tents – available. A concert will be held at the event.
Also at the meeting, the council heard the racial profiling report from 2020, and learned Murphy Police Department didn’t receive any civilian complaints alleging an officer engaging in racial profiling last year.
