Sisters build reputation in women’s golf

by | Jul 18, 2019 | Latest

Two sisters with ties to Plano East Senior High, Libby and Meagan Winans, last week finished as the top two amateurs playing in the Texas Women’s Open golf tournament held at Firewheel Golf Park in Garland.

Meagan, 16, claimed third place overall in the tourney and Libby, 19, was fourth. The event featured 49 golf professionals and 57 amateurs, with the top two spots ultimately going to professionals.

The younger sister led the Open after firing a first round 66, then carded a 73 and a 72 for a 211 total, just three strokes back of the winner. Libby, who is a member of the University of Oklahoma women’s golf team, finished with a 215 total on rounds of 70, 75 and 70.

“A lot of puts fell the first day,” Meagan said. She noted, however, that the felt like she played better the third day, but putts were not falling.
