Mother-Son Extravaganza set for March 23

by | Mar 21, 2019 | Latest

There are still some slots left for Murphy area residents to enjoy games, foods and contests Saturday, March 23 at the second annual Mother-Son Extravaganza.

“We have about 100 signed up and have enough room for 200,” Debbie Scott, city of Murphy Recreation Specialist, said.

The event is from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Murphy Community Center, 509 N. Murphy Road.

Mothers and their sons can register on the city website or at the front desk at the Community Center. Pre-registration is encouraged. Price is $25 for a mother and son, and $15 for each additional son.

Theme this year is “Hometown Heroes” recognizing police, fire, emergency medical personnel, construction workers, cowboys, military and other occupations idolized by boys.

Scott says that firefighters, police, public works employees and others will be on hand to visit with attendees. Costume contests will be held for mothers and sons dressed as their “Hometown Heroes.”

“We are trying to get kids to dress up as their heroes,” Scott said. “We would love for mothers to dress up too.”

Prizes will be awarded in the costume contests and for group activities. In addition, there will be giveaways throughout the evening.

Activities on tap include bounce houses, face painting, music, games of skill and crafts. Mothers and sons will be treated with chicken fingers, pizzas, snacks, desserts and drinks.

The event is sponsored by the city Recreation Department that hosted the annual Father-Daughter Dance in February.
