Murphy residents can get rid of unused, or worn out, items and take place in family activities at a pair of events Saturday, Oct. 13.
Scheduled are Fall Clean and Green hosted by Keep Murphy Beautiful from 9 a.m. until noon and open house at the Murphy Fire Department from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Clean and Green will take place in the City Hall parking lot on N. Murphy Road and MFD is located at 206 N. Murphy Road.
Collection items will be set up around City Hall for items such as toys, shoes, carpet, light bulbs, pots and pans, household items, household hazardous waste, clothing, wood batteries, pet supplies and electronic waste. Onsite document shredding also will be offered.
There will be no curbside pickup offered during Clean and Green. All disposals must be at the designated drop off points.
All participants must provide city of Murphy proof of residency.
On tap at the 13th annual Fire Department Open House are free hotdogs and beverages, popcorn and firetruck bounce house. Fire safety movies will be shown throughout the day and 20-minute CPR classes will be offered every hour.
Also planned is a visit from “Sparky” the firedog, CareFlight medical helicopter landing and tours of the fire station.
Open house is set each year as part of National Fire Prevention Week, which is Oct. 7-13 this year.
