Winds shut down Spring Fever, but more events on tap

by | Apr 19, 2018 | Latest

Winds shut down the Spring Fever festival of Murphy Chamber of Commerce, but several events remain on tap during the next couple of months.

Spring Fever was to be held Saturday, April 14, at the Lowe’s parking lot and vendors started setting up their spaces until the wind interfered. Awnings were being blown down and chamber officials decided that conditions were too dangerous for the vendors and attendees.

Chamber President Celso Martinez reported that the event most likely would not be rescheduled because vendors are committed to other festivals.

In spite of the weather, a number of custom and antique cars lined up for a car show that was part of the festival.

Spring and Clean sponsored by Keep Murphy Beautiful, an opportunity for Murphy residents to get rid of unwanted household items, did go on as planned Saturday morning at the municipal complex.

Items accepted included clothing, toys, Styrofoam, shoes, carpet, tires, light bulbs, batteries, pots and pans, wood, plastic bags, pet supplies and electronic waste. On-site document shredding also was offered.
