A committee of Murphy Historical Society set a goal for itself of raising $10,000 over the next few months to fund the initial stages for construction of Murphy Veterans Tribute honoring active and former members of the United States armed forces.

The tribute committee met Tuesday, Jan. 23, downstairs at Murphy City Hall and meets at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Murphy Veterans Tribute is to be built on a 100-by-100 foot site on the grounds of PSA Murphy and the Central Park food truck court. The city council approved use of the site in August 2017. A sign has been erected to denote the location.

Halff and Associates of Fort Worth has been retained for site engineering and project design. Volunteers are working on a vision statement to guide Halff with the design and general “feeling” desired for the project.

Donations totaling $10,000 are being solicited to fund the initial plans for the design, after which major fundraising work will commence. Donations are tax deductible and can be made to Murphy Historical Society, 120 E. FM 544, Suite 72, Murphy, Texas 75094. Checks should be noted as for “Murphy Veterans Tribute.”

A target date of Nov. 11, 2018, the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, has been set for dedication of the tribute.
