Natural gas prices are going up slightly next month. The Murphy City Council agreed Tuesday, Sept. 16, to the adjustment suggested by a coalition of cities, including Murphy, served by Atmos Energy Corp., Mid-Tex Division.
Atmos filed April 1 for an increase and the Atmos Cities Steering Committee reviewed the request and approved a base rate of $205.6 million system wide, effective Oct. 1.
For Murphy residents, the monthly base charge will increase 68 cents to $23.68 or about 3% over current costs. That will be added to the commodity charge based on consumption of just under 75 cents per CCF (centrum cubic feet or 100 cubic feet), an increase of nearly 16 cents. The “Meter Reading” number on your monthly Atmos bill is the number of CCF you used.
