Early lead holds up for Plano East in Game 1 win over South Grand Prairie

Fresh off a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Hebron n the Class 6A Division I bi-district playoffs, the Plano East softball didn’t need to string together another late rally Thursday.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and sophomore Julia Wilson hit a home run in the top of the seventh inning to seal a 5-3 road victory for Plano East over South Grand Prairie in Game 1 of the area round from South Grand Prairie High School.

Wilson finished the game with four RBIs.

Sophomore Chloe Lee went 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

Plano East took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fifth on a Wilson RBI fielder’s choice. Sophomore Gina Martin, who led off the inning with a triple, scored on Wilson’s hit.

South Grand Prairie got to within 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth after a Plano East defensive error allowed three runs to score.

Wilson’s solo home run in the top of the seventh gave Plano East a 5-3 lead.

Senior Jadyn Dawson struck out nine against two hits and three runs (two earned) in seven innings.

The Lady Panthers (25-9) can close out the Lady Warriors tonight. Game 2 in the best-of-three series is set for 6 pm. from Plano East.
