Solid waste, recycling rates to increase

by | Apr 10, 2025 | Latest

Starting next month, Murphy homeowners will pay more to have their garbage picked up. The Murphy City Council voted unanimously to increase the total monthly charge for residential solid waste collection and recycling from $19.38 to $21.21, effective May 1. Commercial rates for carts will decline slightly, but Dumpster disposal will increase.

Although Republic Services is decreasing the once per week pickup of residential solid waste by 55 cents and the twice-a-year Clean and Green drop-off events by 4 cents per month, the recycling charge is going up $2.17 per month. The rate charged by Republic Services is then increased by a city administrative fee of 20.6% and a franchise fee of 5%.
