Construction is now underway on several North Texas Tollway Authority projects aimed at improving traveling conditions for motorists on President George Bush Turnpike and Dallas North Tollway. The projects respond to the increase in traffic demand and on-going commercial and residential development in the project areas.

“NTTA is focused on meeting the traffic demands on our transportation system,” said NTTA Assistant Executive Director of Infrastructure Elizabeth Mow. “These projects will provide a significant benefit to the traveling public when they are complete. We appreciate our customers’ patience during construction.”

Contractors began placing concrete barriers for the PGBT Fourth Lane Project from DNT to Renner Road May 18. Construction for this first phase of work is anticipated to last 18 months. A second phase of construction, from SH 78 to Renner Road and the DNT to I-35E, will begin late in 2016.

Meanwhile, the first phase construction also is set to begin along DNT. A fourth lane will be added in each direction of DNT between PGBT and Sam Rayburn Tollway. Additionally, the existing direct-connector ramps on the north side of the DNT/PGBT interchange will be reconfigured to add another lane. Improvements of the ramps between Parker Road and Windhaven Parkway and the addition of new ramps north of Windhaven Parkway also will be part of this construction.

In 2016, work is expected to begin on improvements further south on DNT from PGBT to I-635. Those improvements will include restriping to add a fourth lane on DNT from PGBT to Belt Line Road.

The latest information about the PGBT and DNT projects is available at ProgressNTTA.org, via email at [email protected] or by calling (972) 628-3134.
