The Murphy City Council has hired Heath City Manager Aretha Adams to succeed Mike Castro, who resigned in August.
She was chosen from about 40 applicants after a nationwide search.
Adams served as assistant city manager in McKinney from 2009 to 2013, Lancaster in 2013 and 2014, and as interim economic development manager for Corinth in 2015.
She has a Bachelor’s degree in political science, summa cum laude, from Florida A&M University and a Master of Public Administration from American University in Washington, D.C.
Adams, whose hiring was unanimously approved at a special council meeting Tuesday, Dec. 12, will take office Feb. 4.
“She’s the bomb,” said Interim City Manager Allen Barnes. “She’s exactly what they need.”
