Place 2 City Council Candidate Chi Egwuekwe

by | Oct 16, 2023 | Latest

City Council candidate Chi Egwuekwe said he can leverage his professional expertise, municipal experience, and extensive leadership skills to benefit the citizens of Murphy.

“My family has lived in Murphy for 18 years,” he said. “My wife and I raised our kids here. Murphy is our home, and we are committed to doing our part to ensure Murphy remains the best place to live.”

Egwuekwe is seeking the Place 2 council seat previously held by Jennifer Berthiaume. He is opposed on the Nov. 7 special election ballot by W. Scott Smith.

“I am a long-time city volunteer with relevant experience in Murphy economic and community development,” Egwuekwe said.

He has served on the Planning & Zoning Commission for the past four years, was president of the Murphy Municipal Development District and vice president of the Murphy Community Development Corporation.

Egwuekwe said he understands the importance of “listening to and being a voice for the community and other stakeholders.”

He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Morehouse College, and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Texas at Arlington. With more than 20 years executive experience in finance and fiscal management. he is vice president of finance and a divisional chief financial officer for a medical technology company.

Egwuekwe said Murphy faces challenges created by increased traffic, aging infrastructure and the cost of maintaining roadways and improving the water distribution system.

“I bring a blend of financial expertise, municipal experience and a deep commitment to volunteerism/service to others that I believe is a compelling experience profile for the city council,” he said, adding, “I have broad experience in the areas directly relevant to the successful leadership of a city.”
