Councilman would be a voice for all residents

by | Apr 13, 2023 | Latest

City Councilman Andrew Chase said he has lived in Murphy for 50 years and has seen it grow from a town with one convenience store and no traffic lights into a young, vibrant and prosperous community.

Chase said he brings knowledge and experience about how the city functions. “I want to give my best effort to ensure that it operates in a sound, efficient, equitable and representative manner.”

Chase was opposed for re-election to Place 3 by funeral director W. Scott Smith.

After receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science from the University of North Texas, Chase taught high school for 40 years in the Plano ISD, mainly honors and advanced placement social studies classes.

He has served on the Murphy City Council for the past three years and previously served on Murphy’s Board of Adjustments and Ethics Commission.

Chase said he would be a voice to bridge the potential gap between incoming families and the more established ones; and between youth and seniors, offering input to benefit all.

He believes transportation and citizen involvement were two major issues facing the city.

“Our participation in DART, both from east Plano to DFW and to downtown Dallas should provide a huge boost in commuter traffic and relief in congestion,” he said.

It also was important for citizens to be engaged in, and have input to, the workings of the city, he said.

“Therefore, it is essential that the city council have effective ways to communicate with its citizens and that it stays in touch with them using such tools as surveys, town halls, initiatives and forums to solicit their input,” Chase said.
