Attendees of the city of Murphy’s annual Christmas in the Park were greeted by chilly weather, cloudy skies and packed parking lots — hallmarks of the season — but none of that seemed to matter as holiday revelers descended upon the municipal complex by the hundreds to partake in the cheer.
The event, held Thursday, Dec. 1, featured nearly three hours of events that started with a mini parade around the complex. Of the 16 entries, Hawaiian Bros Restaurant won Most Creative while Brownie Troop 207 won Best in Show.
Following the parade was the tree lighting, which drew oohs and ahs from the crowd, then attendees began lining up for the various attractions such as hot chocolate or photos with a live reindeer. The most popular activity, sponsored by the city of Murphy Parks and Recreation Department, Keep Murphy Beautiful and The Corridor, was a station where children could drop off or pen a letter to Santa.
