Deadline for voter registration is Oct. 11

by | Sep 23, 2022 | Latest

Residents who intend to cast their ballot in the Nov. 8 elections need to ensure they have registered to vote by Tuesday, Oct. 11.

In Murphy, residents will vote in county, federal and state elections.

Individuals living within Wylie ISD will also cast their ballots for four open positions on the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees.

Trustees are elected at-large therefore they represent the entire city rather than districts and all registered voters cast a ballot for all seven places.

The race for Place 1 pits Stacie Smith, the board president, against Jill Palmer. Smith was first elected in 2018.

Place 2’s race has former Wylie East High School Principal Mike Williams running against Jeffery Keech. Current Place 2 trustee Mitch Herzog is not seeking re-election.

Former Wylie High School Principal Virdie Montgomery faces Kevin Brooks to represent Place 5, to determine who will hold the seat vacated by Heather Leggett. Leggett, like Herzog, is not seeking another term.

The race for Place 6 has incumbent Jacob Day running against Michael Schwerin. Day has served as a trustee since 2018.

All elected trustees serve four-year terms with elections held every two years.

Voters will also have the opportunity to cast a ballot in state and county elections.

At the state level, voters will vote for both state senators and representatives, the governor and attorney general. At the county level, county clerk, district clerk and county judge will be on the ballot.

At the federal level, residents will vote for their member of the U.S. House of Representatives District 3. There are no senators up for election in 2022.

Early voting is set to begin Monday, Oct. 24, and end Friday, Nov. 4. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

In Texas, Eligible voters must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the county where the application is submitted, at least 17 years 10 months, not a convicted felon unless certain eligibility requirements are met or declared mentally incapacitated.

More information can be found at votetexas.gov.

Voter registration applications can be found online at sos.state.tx.us and must be filled out and returned to the county Voter Registrar’s Office.
