Kelley wins three gold at regionals

Plano East’s senior Tiriah Kelley heads to Arlington after first place finishes in three events at the District 5/6-6A Area Track and Field Championships. Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney was the site for the Areas. Kelley earned first place in the girls 100-meter dash (11.40) and 200-meter dash (23.49). 

Kelley along with Kaylee Moody, Janiya Richardson, and Kaley Qualls won gold medals in the 4×100 relay (46.57). The team of Moody, Richardson, Qualls, and Karis Jenkins earned a second-place finish in the 4×200 relay. Also in the relays, Chidozie Igwe, JorDan Cruz, Luis Chamu and Ismail Mahdi won the bronze in the boys 4×400 relay (3:20.99). 

Aiden Hayes earned a gold medal in the boys high jump (6’06”). Ella Yarborough finished second in the girls discus throw (137’07”).

In the girls standings, Plano East finishes fifth with 65 points. Flower Mound (143), Allen (73), Denton Guyer (71) and Coppell (67) were the top four finalists. The Panthers finished in a two-way tie for 11th place with Denton Braswell (25 points). Allen (100), Plano West (73), Coppell (62), Prosper (58) and Flower Mound Marcus (52) were the top five finalists. The Regionals will be held at UTA’s Maverick Stadium in Arlington from April 29-30th.
