Murphy City Council held several public hearings during the April 19 regular meeting.
The first public meeting concerned a special use permit (SUP) for a drive-thru for Hawaiian Bros., which is currently renovating the former Wachovia Bank building on FM 544 in the Murphy Marketplace shopping center.
Council approved the SUP.
The second public hearing also concerned a SUP, but it was to allow an assisted living facility to increase the number of residents from six to eight.
Ultimately, council approved the SUP in a 4-2 vote.
The third public hearing concerned a zoning change from single-family residential-20 to single-family residential 15 for a planned development near South Maxwell Creek and Bunny Run Drive, which is a private road. The development would split the acreage into four lots.

In other business, council authorized Finance Director Karen Montgomery to issue $3.2 million in tax notes, rather than certificates of obligation, to fund the sidewalks and trails project recently approved by council.
