Mothers and sons looking to spend quality time enjoying games, food and contests still have an opportunity to purchase tickets to the Murphy Mother-Son Extravaganza.
“We currently have 77 of the 136 tickets sold,” Special Events Coordinator Kayla McFarland said.
This will be the fourth year for the event and it will return in-person. Last year, the city provided a date night box filled with activities for mothers and sons to complete at home. At the end of the evening, the city held a Zoom call where attendees were invited to talk about the boxes and various clues within them.
The event is from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at Murphy Community Center, 509 N. Murphy Road.
Mothers and their sons can register on the city website or at the front desk at the Community Center. Pre-registration is encouraged. Price is $25 for a mother and son, and $15 for each additional son.
Unlike the Daddy Daughter Dance, which is typically held in February, the Mother-Son Extravaganza focuses on activities to keep sons engaged with their mothers.
“It is all about creating memories and experiences that our Murphy families can come to, enjoy and talk about for years to come,” McFarland said.
This year’s theme is “Space” and McFarland said there will be “plenty of fun space activities and crafts for moms and sons to enjoy.”
Some of the games will pit mothers against their children, and previous Mother-Son Extravaganzas have included face painting, music and games of skill, along with light food and refreshments.
The event is open to both residents and non-residents and attendees are encouraged to dress up in costumes.
