Local anglers compete in trout roundup

Several eager young anglers ventured out in bitter cold conditions Saturday, Feb. 26 to compete for the honor of catching the biggest fish in Murphy’s annual Rainbow Trout Roundup.

“Despite the cold weather, we had a great turnout and a fun fishing tournament that everyone enjoyed,” city of Murphy Special Events Coordinator Kayla McFarland said.

In the 0 to 6-year-old category, for the shortest fish, Zoey Cisnero took first place at 6 1/2 inches and Olivia Thomas brought home second place with a seven-inch fish.

Blake Miller took home first place for longest fish with a 13-inch catch and Morgan Dayton received second place with a fish measuring 9 ¾ inches.

Kiet, (last name unavailable), received first place in the heaviest stringer category weighing one pound and 13 ounces and Mustafa Celik’s fish received second place, weighing in at one pound 10 ounces.

In 7- to 11-year-olds, Kayla Le received first place shortest with a 6 1/8 inch catch and Madeline Zabojaik received second place shortest with a 7 1/8 inch fish.

For the longest, Lydia Wong received first place with an 11 ¾ inch fish and Cattleya Zapata received second place with her slightly shorter 11 ½ inch catch.

For the heaviest stringer, Nikolai, (last name unavailable), received first place weighing in at one pound 10 ounces and Asim Cetinkaya received second place with a stringer weight of one pound eight ounces.

In the 12- to 17-year-old category, Apler Goksen received the top shortest fish at 7 3/8 inches and Darren, (last name unavailable), received second place shortest fish, also at 7 3/8 inches.

Bianca Pesina received first place longest for her 13 ½ inch catch and Meliha Celik received second place for her 11 ¾ inch catch.

Heip and Efe, (last name unavailable), received first place heaviest stringer and second place heaviest stringer for their catch weighing one pound 15 ounces and one pound 12 ounces, respectively.
