East sweeps Sachse

by | Nov 23, 2021 | Latest, Sports

The Plano East Panthers basketball teams swept the Sachse Mustangs in pre-Thanksgiving action Tuesday.

The girls tipped things off with a 60-44 win over the Lady Mustangs in the afternoon. A 36-14 first-half advantage buoyed the Lady Panthers.

Sachse responded, outscoring East 30-24 in the second half, but Plano East’s pressure defense had already done damage in the first half.

The Lady Panthers now sit at 4-1 in the early season. They’ll take on South Grand Prairie next Tuesday. The Warriors eliminated Plano East in the regional finals last season.

The boys continued the momentum in the later game, beating Sachse 72-44 behind a solid defensive performance. The Panthers held the Mustangs to just 20 points in the first half, forcing missed opportunities.

Offensively, Muizz Qazi led the way for Plano East with 14 points. He was one of three Panthers in double figures, with Brandon Hardison scoring 12 and Jordan Misel adding 11. Eight of Misel’s points came in the fourth quarter.

Plano East is now 4-0 to start the season and travel to Wylie next Tuesday after the holiday break.
