Annual Rainbow Trout Roundup

by | Jan 28, 2016 | Life & Style

Murphy’s highly popular Rainbow Trout Roundup is the initial event in the City’s growing list of yearlong family-friendly offerings, says Kayla McFarland, Special Events Coordinator.

“The strong family culture in Murphy makes events like this grow both in popularity and participation,” she said.

The third annual Rainbow Trout Roundup is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 11:30 a.m. The pond at the Murphy Municipal Complex, 206 North Murphy Road, is once again the site of the fishing tournament, which will be held rain or shine.

New this year is the breakdown in the schedule for participants by age groupings.

Participants up to 6 years of age are invited to cast from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Then, participants from 7 years of age to 17 years of age may cast their lines starting at 9:45 a.m. until the end of the tournament at 11:30 a.m.

“We’ve separated the youngest contestants so they can enjoy what is likely their first experience with fishing,” she said.

Anglers 17 years and older can cast their lines after the close of the tournament. As an exemption to the licensing requirement, the Texas Parks and Wildlife monitors will suspend the license checks until 4 p.m. That only applies, of course, to the Murphy pond on Feb. 20.
