The Wylie High School theatre department has been preparing for the much anticipated performance of “Shrek the Musical” for several months and in a few weeks, audiences will see their hard work come to fruition.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, ‘Shrek The Musical’ is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.

The tale follows the story of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue.

“The special effects of this production are what stand out as being unique for this show,” said director and theatre teacher Polly Harrison. “We’ll have a 22 ft. smoke breathing dragon, exploding birds, ogre transformations and so much more.”

Harrison said she loves the amount of talent and passion the group of students possess.

“We have been able to do such challenging work because they keep overcoming every obstacle that comes our way,” she said. “They’re awesome!”
